Indefinite Leave to Remain (ILR)
Acquiring Indefinite Leave to Remain or (ILR) in the UK is the eventual aim for many who travel to the UK to live, work or to join family members. It is also considered as ‘settlement’. Typically, you must have spent at least five years in the UK before you can apply for Indefinite Leave to Remain. Many different types of immigration visas can lead to ILR including Spouse Visas, Innovator Visas and the Skilled Worker Visa. Requirements to apply for Indefinite Leave to remain:
To qualify for indefinite leave to remain, you have to legally spend at least 5 years on the visa which allows settlement after 5 years. Some visas allow settlement after 3 years for example Innovator Visa or Global Talent Visa.
Other eligibility requirements are:
• Continuous lawful residence in the UK for the required qualify period
• Absences from the UK not exceeding 180 days in any 12 months of the qualifying period
• Evidence you have passed a Life in the UK Test
• Evidence of your ability to speak English to the required standard
